SUMMARY:Zero-Trust Cybersecurity: Trust No One?
DESCRIPTION:Zero-Trust Cybersecurity\nTrust No One?\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, April 9\, 2019\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Protecting digital assets is becoming harder and harder\, for one alarming reason: most organizations have poorly prepared for the deluge of cloud-based applications and other online services. With this explosion of information availability\, the potential for data breaches continues to grow exponentially. \nCybersecurity today must extend beyond simply protecting on-premises data. With the ever-increasing desire to access applications from any network\, from anywhere\, cybersecurity must also safeguard the data traversing among cloud applications\, data centers\, and end-point devices. The cost of failing to do so is potentially huge. According to a recent study sponsored by IBM\, the average cost of a single data breach is over $3 million. \nTo neutralize these risks\, one new approach that has been gaining momentum is the “zero-trust” model. Originally conceived by Forrester\, major corporations like Google have adopted various forms of zero-trust cybersecurity. If implemented properly\, zero-trust has the power to transform the industry. \n\nIs zero-trust security destined to become mainstream?\nWill a micro-segmentation security strategy offer enough protection?\nWhat are the advantages and disadvantages of not trusting anyone by default?\n\nJoin us on April 9 to find out. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Randy Wood\, VP\, Public Sector\, Akamai Technologies \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Amir Sharif\, Co-Founder\, Aporeto \nAndrew Rubin\, CEO and Co-Founder\, Illumio \nPere Monclus VP and CTO Networking and Security BU VMware \nDeepak Jeevankumar Managing Director Dell Technologies Capital \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable event flyer. \n \n \n \n \n \n Hauck Auditorium\nDavid and Joan Traitel Building\n435 Lasuen Mall\nStanford\, CA 94305

SUMMARY:Breakthroughs in Diabetes: Real Progress or Just More of the Same?
DESCRIPTION:Breakthroughs in Diabetes\nReal Progress or Just More of the Same?\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, February 26\, 2019\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n More than 1.5 million people in the United States live with Type 1 diabetes\, a disease in which the pancreas does not produce enough insulin\, and managing this disease can be a huge burden. Yes\, the industry has come a long way from the room-sized artificial pancreas of the 70s\, paper records\, finger pricking\, and manual injections. However\, even though these treatments are improving\, they still require constant vigilance. One missed alarm or delayed injection could be fatal. \nWith today’s continuous glucose monitoring systems and self-optimizing insulin pumps — and improved software that connects the two — the search for the artificial pancreas may be close to over. And it’s not just big companies and startups that are having an impact. Feeling that progress still seems slow\, some patients are taking matters into their own hands and creating their own artificial pancreas. Wherever these new solutions come from\, they will have the power to transform millions of lives. \n\nHow close are we to an artificial pancreas?\nWhat are companies learning from the patients who have made home-grown solutions?\nIs the industry poised to shift from “treating” to “curing” diabetes?\n\nJoin us on February 26 to find out. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Amy Tenderich\, Founder and Editor-in-Chief\, DiabetesMine \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Jeffrey Brewer\, Founder and CEO\, Bigfoot Biomedical \nEugene Brandon\, Senior Director of Strategic Relations\, ViaCyte \nJoel Goldsmith\, Senior Director\, Digital Platforms\, Abbott Diabetes Care \nDivya Gopisetty\, Associate\, The diaTribe Foundation \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable PDF. \n \n \n \n \n \n Stanford Faculty Club\nStanford University\n439 Lagunita Drive\nStanford\, CA 94305\nDriving directions and parking information

SUMMARY:Quantum Computing: Technology Nirvana or Security Armageddon?
DESCRIPTION:Quantum Computing\nTechnology Nirvana or Security Armageddon?\n \n \n \n \n \n Thursday\, November 15\, 2018\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Quantum computing promises to create the most fundamental change in the history of computing. The increases in processing power and speed will enable new capabilities that would take years — or maybe are simply not possible — using “classical” computing technologies. From molecular and financial modeling to weather forecasting and artificial intelligence\, quantum computing represents the biggest advance in decades. \nPerhaps the greatest impact — and most dangerous threat — will be in cryptography. Capable of instantly breaking today’s strongest data encryption algorithms\, quantum computing is a major focus of governments\, multinational corporations\, and a growing number of startups around the globe. Theoretically\, the first organization to build a quantum computer will have the power to break any existing security key anywhere\, potentially wreaking havoc on entire societies\, militaries\, and economies. The race is on. \n\nWhen will quantum computing find its way into production?\nHow will organizations be able to protect against potential misuse?\nHas the US fallen behind other countries in the quantum computing race?\n\nJoin us on November 15 to find out.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Brady Forrest\, Operating Partner\, ETW Advisors \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Alexei Marchenkov\, Founder and CEO\, Bleximo \nLouis Parks\, Founder and CEO\, SecureRF \nPete Shadbolt\, Chief Science Officer\, psiQuantum \nHratch Achadjian\, Quantum Computing & AI\, Head of Business Development – North America\, Google \nJoseph Raffa\, Director\, IBM Ventures \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable PDF. \n \n \n \n \n \n Stanford Faculty Club\nStanford University\n439 Lagunita Drive\nStanford\, CA 94305\nDriving directions and parking information

SUMMARY:The Impact of Technology on Clinical Trials: Will AI and Mobile Create Cures Faster?
DESCRIPTION:The Impact of Technology on Clinical Trials\nWill AI and Mobile Create Cures Faster?\n \n \n \n \n \n Monday\, October 15\, 2018\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bringing a new medical treatment or drug to market often takes years and costs billions of dollars\, and clinical trials usually present the biggest sinkhole — by some estimates\, up to 20% of a $65B industry. As medical expenses skyrocket\, several startups working on AI and other emerging technologies aim to revolutionize or\, in some cases\, even replace the clinical trial process. \nThese new technologies promise to get the right cure to the right people at the right time\, simply because they decrease the time to market and expenses involved in clinical trials — while also reducing the frustration that so many patients feel about their treatment options. \n\nCan these technologies find the right participants for clinical trials?\nWill these new innovations reverse the trend of rising health costs?\nHow can AI provide a “shot in the arm” for the clinical trial industry?\n\nJoin us on October 15 to find out. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Daniel Kraft\, Founder and Chair\, Exponential Medicine \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Wout Brusselaers\, Co-Founder and CEO\, Deep 6 AI \nDr. Michelle Longmire\, Co-Founder and CEO\, Medable \nMohanad Fors\, Global Head of BIOME – Digital Innovation Lab\, Novartis Pharmaceuticals \nRuchita Sinha\, Senior Director of Investments\, Sanofi Ventures \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable PDF. \n \n \n \n \n \n Stanford Faculty Club\nStanford University\n439 Lagunita Drive\nStanford\, CA 94305\nDriving directions and parking information

SUMMARY:Open-Source Processors: Bringing Silicon Back to Silicon Valley?
DESCRIPTION:Open-Source Processors\nBringing Silicon Back to Silicon Valley?\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, September 18\, 2018\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The open-source approach to developing new technologies is entering a new realm\, with the potential to change an entire industry. For years\, open-source has lived exclusively in the software domain. From Linux to GitHub\, open-source software has become a powerful way to bring new products and solutions to market. This open-source transformation in software is now making its way to silicon\, with far-reaching implications. \nOpen-source has the potential to be as big a game-changer in silicon as it has been in software. Companies like Sifive and Esperanto are already commercializing new architectures based on the open-source approach\, and new open-source communities like the RISC V consortium are having a huge impact. \nIn this event\, our panel will discuss the promise of open-source CPU architectures and the challenges faced in building complete system-on-a-chip (SoC) products around an open-source Instruction Set Architecture (ISA). \n\nWhat will motivate chip companies and customers to embrace open-source hardware?\nWhat ecosystem components are needed for successful commercialization?Which domains will benefit by embedding an open-architecture?\nWhat business models can succeed in this new ecosystem?\n\nJoin us on September 18 to find out.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Linley Gwennap\, President\, The Linley Group \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Krste Asanovic\, Co-Founder and Chief Architect\, SiFive \nArt Swift\, VP Marketing and Business Development\, Esperanto Technologies \nJohn Heinlein\, Vice President\, Chief of Staff to the CEO\, ARM \nStefan Dyckerhoff\, Managing Director\, Sutter Hill Ventures \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable PDF. \n \n \n \n \n \n Stanford Faculty Club\nStanford University\n439 Lagunita Drive\nStanford\, CA 94305\nDriving directions and parking information

SUMMARY:Fully Autonomous Vehicles: Removing the Front-Seat Driver
DESCRIPTION:Fully Autonomous Vehicles\nRemoving the Front-Seat Driver\n \n \n \n \n \n Thursday\, May 24\, 2018\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The automotive industry is bracing for a new surge of progress and opportunity\, with billions of dollars on the line. The potential is huge. People have been dreaming about owning a self-driving car for decades\, and recent sales have shown that consumers are willing to spend big bucks for this dream. \nThe final push to widespread availability of fully autonomous vehicles has begun. Testing has moved onto public roads\, and in the next few years\, several vendors plan to release autonomous vehicles in limited-use “Level 4” situations (taxis\, transit companies\, fleet operations\, freeway-only driving). As the technology advances from “assisted driving” to true self-driving\, consumer-ready vehicles for general road travel (Level 5) will be tailgating right behind. \nIn this panel\, industry-leading startups\, entrepreneurs\, and investors will explore the technologies and challenges related to realizing the dream of a fully autonomous self-driving vehicle — i.e. a vehicle that a human does not need to monitor and that can completely take over all driving responsibilities. \n\nWill small startups or large corporations have the inside track?\nHow will we know when self-driving cars are safe enough?\nHow will self-driving cars change our lifestyle?\n\nTake a ride with us on May 24 to find out. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Rob Coneybeer\, Managing Director\, Shasta Ventures\n – More than $1B under management \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Sterling Anderson\, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer\, Aurora\n – Named “America’s Hottest Self-Driving Startup” by Wired \nIvan Mihov\, Director of Program Management\, Zoox\n – Valued at over $1B by Crunchbase \nVinay Shet\, Director of Product\, Lyft\n – Ground-breaking car transportation company \nAlexei Andreev\, Managing Director\, Autotech Ventures\n – Focused on the $3T ground transportation sector \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable PDF. \n \n \n \n \n \n William R. SUMMARY:The Future of Storytelling: AR/VR Turns Its Gaze on TV and Cinema
DESCRIPTION:The Future of Storytelling\nAR/VR Turns Its Gaze on TV and Cinema?\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, March 20\, 2018\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The way we tell stories is on the verge of a seismic shift in technology. Over the millennia\, storytelling has evolved from oral traditions shared around the campfire to viral videos shared with millions around the globe — and it’s not stopping there. Technologies such as AR and VR are disrupting TV and film makers everywhere from Hollywood to Bollywood. \nAs AR/VR shifts its gaze from gaming to cinema\, familiar 2-D rectangular displays are being replaced with new experiences that are deeply immersive\, interactive\, and personalizable. And investment is hot\, with more than $5B in VC investments. In a market projected to explode tenfold by 2020\, multiple startups are vying for lead roles in this new production. \nOur panel of founders and industry insiders will explore these and other issues. \n\nHow are startups raising capital and making money in mixed reality?\nWhat impact will AR/VR have on social media?\nHow are TV and film studios adapting to these new opportunities?\nWhat technical and social challenges stand in the way of mass adoption?\n\nJoin us March 20 to hear how these technologies are shaping the future of storytelling. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Jesse Damiani\, Founder and CEO\, Galatea \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Robin Sho Moser\, Founder and CEO\, eyecandylab \nLarry Cutler\, Founder and CTO\, Baobab Studios \nTed Schilowitz\, Futurist in Residence\, Paramount Pictures \nMaddie Callander\, Director of Operations\, Boost VC \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable PDF. \n \n \n \n \n \n Stanford Faculty Club\nStanford University\n439 Lagunita Drive\nStanford\, CA 94305\nDriving directions and parking information

SUMMARY:ICOs and the Token Economy: Disruption or Deception?
DESCRIPTION:ICOs and the Token Economy\nDisruption or Deception?\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, February 27\, 2018\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Even the most seasoned investors\, entrepreneurs\, and established businesses have been caught off guard by the meteoric rise of Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs)\, cryptographic tokens\, and blockchain-based application development. Early-stage startups raised nearly $4B from ICOs during the past year\, far outstripping venture and angel funding. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently spoke out\, emphatically cautioning that many ICOs may be violating securities laws. \nBeyond the legal concerns and the hype awaits a potential technological and economic disruption not seen since the birth of the worldwide web: the decentralization of the Internet. If successful\, decentralization of data storage and ownership promises to dramatically upend the status quo\, cutting out intermediaries and centralized platforms and replacing them with token-based\, peer-to-peer transactions executed via “smart contracts.” Myriad service industries are in blockchain’s crosshairs\, from financial and payment processing to ride and home sharing\, such as Uber and Airbnb. \n\nAs decentralization evolves\, what form will it take? When will it occur\, and at what scale?\nWhat are the obstacles and barriers?\nGiven recent SEC action\, what is the future of ICOs?\nHow will companies\, businesses\, and markets benefit from these changes?\n\nJoin us on February 27\, 2018\, to find out. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Amy Wan\, Founder\, Sagewise.io \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Amanda Straub\, Senior Counsel\, Cyber Unit\, Division of Enforcement\, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission \nCharles Hudson\, Founder and Managing Partner\, Precursor Ventures \nEric Ly\, Founder and CEO\, Hub Token\, and Co-Founder\, LinkedIn \nRichard Craib\, Founder\, Numerai \n \n \n \n \n \n Demo Pavillion\n \n \n \n \n \n Alpha Coin  •  Cypherium  •  Earn.com  •  Hack Fund  •  Hub  •  Luna Capital  •  NEM Foundation  •  Olympus Labs  •  Sagewise  •  Votem  •  WorkCoin  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable PDF. \n \n \n \n \n \n Stanford Faculty Club\nStanford University\n439 Lagunita Drive\nStanford\, CA 94305\nDriving directions and parking information

SUMMARY:Young Immigrant Entrepreneurs: Living the American Dream
DESCRIPTION:Young Immigrant Entrepreneurs\nLiving the American Dream\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, January 30\, 2018\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n One of the most highly-motivated\, capable groups of individuals in America is often taken for granted: young immigrant entrepreneurs. They leave their home countries to bring their dreams to live in the land of opportunity. Immigrants are some of our most brilliant innovators\, researchers\, and scientists. They make up only 12% of the U.S. population but in recent years hold 30% of its patents\, 47% of its doctorates in science and engineering\, and 25% of its Nobel Prizes. Young immigrant entrepreneurs are tackling challenging problems\, building successful companies\, creating jobs\, and adding to the economy. \nWhile there are political factions with anti-immigration agendas\, the facts will not change: immigrants are twice as likely to start businesses than U.S.-born citizens. According to Inc. Magazine\, between 1995 and 2005 immigrants founded 52% of all new Silicon Valley companies\, with 25% of them raising VC funds. In 2012\, tech companies founded by immigrant entrepreneurs employed over 560\,000 people and generated over $63 billion in sales. \nWell-known immigrant entrepreneurs\, including Sergey Brin\, Elon Musk\, Peter Thiel\, and Vinod Khosla\, have built some of the world’s most successful companies. If not for immigrants\, Google\, PayPal\, Tesla\, Evernote\, Reddit\, and many other companies would not exist. With new ideas and diverse perspectives\, young immigrant entrepreneurs are leading promising startups that could be the next unicorns. \n\nWhat drives these young entrepreneurs to immigrate?\nHow do they overcome the many challenges that they face?\nAre they concerned about immigration reform affecting their companies?\n\n* Source: Bernard Munos\, Senior Fellow\, FasterCures  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Mohit Aron\, Founder and CEO\, Cohesity\nWith 15 years of experience in building scalable\, high-performance distribution systems\, Mohit has been attributed as the father of hyper-convergence. Data consumption is increasing at an unprecedented rate as the adoption of enterprise and consumer applications in IoT\, cloud computing\, autonomous vehicles\, and online collaboration tool go mainstream. \nTo keep up with the demand\, data center operators may run 100\,000 servers in a single location. Managing critical infrastructure at hyperscale is an expensive challenge that requires skilled IT staff. Artificial intelligence is now providing solutions that allow companies to control costs by optimizing energy consumption\, monitoring performance\, and even enhancing call center support more efficiently. AI has entered the data center. \nAccording to Stratistics MRC\, the Global Hyperscale Data Center market is expected to grow from $20.24 billion in 2016 to reach $102.19 billion by 2023 with a CAGR of 26.0%. Startups along with big players including AWS\, Equinix\, and Ericsson are all running hard to get the edge over the competition. SUMMARY:Deep Genomics: Artificial Intelligence Meets The Human Genome
DESCRIPTION:Deep Genomics\nArtificial Intelligence Meets The Human Genome\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, June 20\, 2017\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Deep Genomics is opening doors to understanding the large-scale\, incredibly complex data set that makes up the human genome. The Human Genome sequencing project\, completed in 2003 cost $3B and took 15 years to complete. Now the human genome can be sequenced within a matter of days for approximately $1\,000\, making it possible to generate data sets for Deep Genomics. Using artificial intelligence (AI)\, deep learning algorithms\, and complex data sets\,  the entire healthcare industry could be revolutionized — from diagnostics to gene therapies to personalized medicine. Deep Genomics holds the key to unlocking the biggest disruptions in the medical\, life sciences\, and pharmaceutical industries. \nThe potential returns for investors are driving a funding race. Startups are raising billions of dollars in venture capital. Earlier this year\, Grail raised $900M in a series B round for their “high-intensity sequencing approach” in a market estimated to reach $45B by 2024. While there is a tremendous business opportunity\, there are huge privacy implications related to mass-genomics data collection.  \n\nWhich companies will prevail with this emerging technology’s ecosystem?\nHow will companies access the data?\nWill the development of new therapies be accelerated as a result of Deep Genomics?\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Raeka Aiyar\, Director of Scientific Strategy and Communications\, Stanford Genome Technology Center \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Charlene Son Rigby\, SVP Customer Operations\, Fabric Genomics \nHelmy Eltoukhy\, CEO\, Guardant Health \nAndy Felton\, VP Marketing & Product Management\, Ion Torrent Business \nUrsheet Parikh\, Partner\, Mayfield Fund\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable PDF. \n \n \n \n \n \n SRI International Conference Center\n333 Ravenswood Drive\nMenlo Park\, CA 94025

SUMMARY:Sports Analytics: Changing The Game
DESCRIPTION:Sports Analytics\nChanging The Game\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, May 23\, 2017\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Sports analytics is changing the game by providing insights that improve athletic performance\, affect coaching decisions\, and engage audiences in new ways. Using sensor technology\, computer vision\, and VR\, startups and tech companies are developing state-of-the-art algorithms that reveal physiological details about the athletes as they train and compete. Now every professional sports team is investing in analytics. Precise data provides coaches and fans with intimate knowledge about each player on the field\, allowing them to view the game like never before. As sports technology evolves\, it gets relied on more and more each day. \nThe sports analytics industry\, according to Research and Markets analysts\, is expected to reach $3.97B over the next five years — but is not without controversy. Athletes are concerned about who has the right to their personal data\, and many have speculated that draft picks and player salaries could be determined by the data. \n\nWill sports analytics be available to all\, or to only teams with the biggest budgets?\nWho stands to make the most money?\nWhich sports are changing as a result of sports analytics technology?\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Ted Ramey\, Sports Broadcaster at KNBR 1050 and Radio PXP voice of the SJ Earthquakes\, and AM sports anchor at 107.7 The Bone \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Michael Sharf\, Founder and CEO\, Bridge Athletic \nSteven Smith\, Founder and CEO\, Kitman Labs \nHoward G. New platforms and applications are entering the workforce — Chatbots have arrived. With the capacity to understand human language\, gestures\, and intentions\, these digital assistants have the potential to disrupt the delivery of the customer experience while collecting enormous amounts of personal data. \nMany companies are creating platforms and apps to capture a share of a market that is expected to exceed $600 billion in revenue by 2020. Both startups and established companies — like IBM\, Facebook\, and Slack — are already dominant players and are developing applications that will change the customer experience in finance\, healthcare\, and travel\, to name a few. \n\nWho will emerge as the dominant players?\nWhat types of jobs will be “outsourced to this new digital workforce?\nWill adequate consumer protections be adopted?\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Mohamed Musbah\, VP of Product\, Maluuba \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Alex Poon\, Founder and COO\, X.ai \nWill Murphy\, Founder and VP of Product\, Talla \nJeremy Goldberg\, Product Designer\, Facebook \nSarah Guo\, Investor\, Greylock Partners \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View or download flyer for event: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Download the printable PDF. \n \n \n \n \n \n SRI International Conference Center\n333 Ravenswood Drive\nMenlo Park\, CA 94025

SUMMARY:Launching Longevity: Funding the Fountain of Youth
DESCRIPTION:Launching Longevity\nFunding the Fountain of Youth\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, June 21\, 2016\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Can technology make human longevity a reality? As the pace of discovery accelerates\, scientists and entrepreneurs are closing in on the Fountain of Youth. Disrupting the aging process by hacking the code of life\, promises better health and longer maximum lifespans. With many layers of complexity from science to ethics\, there are still skeptics placing odds against human longevity. \nVenture capitalists are betting on success; putting big money on the table to fund longevity startups. Google/Alphabet and drugmaker AbbVie have invested $1.5 billion on Calico\, while Human Longevity Inc. recently raised $220 million from their Series B funding round. Complementing traditional venture investment\, VCs like Peter Thiel and Joon Yun have established foundations and prizes to accelerate the end of aging. \n\nWhy are VCs suddenly investing heavily in longevity startups?\nWill extended lifespan be a privilege of the wealthy or will the benefits be accessible to all?\nHow long before these well-funded startups bring viable products to market?\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Special Presenter\n \n \n \n \n \n Aubrey de Grey\, Chief Science Officer and Co-founder\, SENS \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Sonia Arrison\, author\, 100 Plus: How the Coming Age of Longevity Will Change Everything… \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Dr. Brian Kennedy\, CEO\, Buck Institute for Research on Aging \nDr. Daniel Kraft\, Founder\, RegenMed Systems\, and Chair of Medicine\, Singularity University \nWill Eden\, Vice President\, Thiel Capital\n \nJoe McCracken\, VP of Business Development\, Alkahest \nDr. Thomas Rando\, Director of the Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging\, Stanford University \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SRI International Conference Center\n333 Ravenswood Drive\nMenlo Park\, CA 94025

Powered by Millennials’ preferences for unique products and mobile technology\, startups and established businesses alike are competing for the attention of online shoppers. As consumers become overwhelmed by the number of products available\, they are craving faster shopping experiences. In response\, startups are delivering solutions using “mobile first”\, hyper-personalization\, and social communities to reach target audiences. \nIndustry analysts predict 270 million consumers will shop online by 2020 and transactions in the U.S. alone will reach $523 billion. \n\nWill consumers embrace niche marketplaces or are they merely a temporary fad?\nAre startups implementing new business models that will disrupt established players?\nWhat role will established retailers play as this new wave picks up momentum?\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Jim Crawford\, Retail Experience Expert \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Colin Stuart\, Co-Founder and CTO\, Betabrand \nDennis Liu\, Co-Founder and CSO\, Touch of Modern \nJohn McDonald\, VP of Business Operations\, Poshmark \nTalia Goldberg\, Venture Capitalist\, Bessemer Venture Partners \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SRI International Conference Center\n333 Ravenswood Drive\nMenlo Park\, CA 94025

SUMMARY:Rewriting DNA: Big Returns from Gene Editing
DESCRIPTION:Rewriting DNA\nBig Returns from Gene Editing\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, April 19\, 2016\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Imagine cutting and pasting genes in DNA\, just like editing words in a document on a computer. CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology does just that\, making it possible to replace genetic material with a simpler\, cheaper\, more precise method than ever before. Dubbed “the biggest biotech discovery of the century” supporters of CRISPR call out benefits such as potential cures for diseases like cancer\, malaria\, and cystic fibrosis; increased crop yields; and correcting genetic defects. Opponents raise ethical concerns citing the law of unintended consequences\, designer babies\, and interspecies organ transplants. \nWith the market for gene editing expected to reach $3.5 billion by 2019\, the stakes for companies\, scientists\, and entrepreneurs are high with battles already being waged over patents. Notably\, pharmaceutical companies are jumping in to protect their interests\, too. \n\nWill the winner take all?\nCan CRISPR eradicate viruses like AIDS and Zika?\nCan science truly control genetics?\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Ted Driscoll\, Parther & Digital Healthcare Lead\, Claremont Creek Ventures \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n Riley Doyle\, CEO & Technical Lead\, Desktop Genetics \nEdward Lanphier\, President & CEO\, Sangamo BioSciences \nJenny Rooke\, PhD & Managing Director\, 5 Prime Ventures \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SRI International Conference Center\n333 Ravenswood Drive\nMenlo Park\, CA 94025

SUMMARY:Blockchain: Transforming the Future of Global Business
DESCRIPTION:Blockchain\nTransforming the Future of Global Business\n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, March 15\, 2016\n6:00 pm to 8:30 pm\n6:00 pm: Reception and networking\n7:00 pm: Panel discussion (with Q&A) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n We are on the verge a massive\, global change\, much like the early days of the Internet. Blockchain technology\, extremely secure distributed ledgers\, will soon displace legacy databases and their bloated infrastructure in dozens of industries from Wall Street to supply chain management. Secure\, running records of verified transactions get chained together and replicated in nodes across blockchain networks. Blockchains will speed up the global economy by allowing companies to complete global transactions faster across borders while guaranteeing data integrity. \nPhysical\, legal\, and financial transactions are tied together in a Blockchain\, a series of transactions recorded in a distributed ledger without the need for a centralized authority. The economic impact is enormous; Blockchains will account for trillions of dollars in transactions across key industries including healthcare\, insurance\, real estate\, government\, banking\, and financial markets by 2020. \n\nIs Blockchain all that it is cracked up to be?\nWhich companies stand to lose the most from Blockchain adoption?\nWill Blockchain save businesses and consumers save billions of dollars by reducing losses from theft and fraud?\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Moderator\n \n \n \n \n \n Naveed Sherwani\, President & CEO\, PeerNova \n \n \n \n \n \n Panelists\n \n \n \n \n \n David Aho\, Co-Founder\, Chronicled \nZaki Manian\, Founder\, Skuchain \nJohn Wolpert\, Global Blockchain Offering Director\, IBM \nW.
