To use a Dickensian cliché, this is indeed a time of great upheaval in the life sciences industry. Words like “unsustainable trend”, “nothing like it in 50 years”, and “unprecedented change”, are routinely used in connection with healthcare in the US . As many of the old rules no longer apply, the time is ripe for new business models to emerge.  

Join us is in an interactive ½ day session of discussion and ideas from representatives of life sciences businesses, entrepreneurs, VC’s, clinical research labs, universities, and government programs about the trends, challenges, and investment opportunities in this space. For this interactive part of the workshop, entrepreneurs will be invited to present a 1minute fast-pitch with 2 minutes of questions. After the presentations the entrepreneurs will be positioned at designated tables, inviting attendees to find out more about their business, and provide input and feedback. During this networking session, each attendee will have two votes to award their entrepreneurs of choice – one for best potential investment and one for most novel or interesting idea.

Bios

David Ewing Duncan, Keynote Speaker

David Ewing Duncan is an award-winning, best-selling author of seven books and numerous other writings. David’s previous books include Masterminds: Genius, DNA and the Quest to Rewrite Life (Harper Perennial) and Calendar: Humanity’s Epic Struggle to Determine a True and Accurate Year (Harper-Collins/Avon), the latter published in 19 languages, and a bestseller in 14 countries. He is a Contributing Editor and Columnist for CondeNast Portfolio, and Chief Correspondent of NPR Talk’s “Biotech Nation”. He has also been a Contributing Editor to Wired, Discover, and MIT Technology Review, a regular contributor to National Geographic, Life and numerous other publications, as well as a producer for numerous television shows including NOVA and Discovery. At UC Berkeley, David is the Director of the Center for Life Science Policy and a Visiting Researcher at the Graduate School of Journalism
