Geoffrey Moore is a best-selling author and venture partner at MDV. Recognized for his expertise in market development and business and investment strategies, he serves as an advisor to many of MDV’s portfolio companies, drawing upon best practices derived from his extensive work with technology startups.

Geoffrey has made the understanding and effective exploitation of disruptive technologies the core of his life’s work. His books, Crossing the Chasm, Inside the Tornado, The Gorilla Game, and Living on the Fault Line are best sellers and required reading at leading business schools. Highly regarded as a dynamic public speaker, Geoffrey is the founder of The Chasm Group and currently is managing director of TCG Advisors. Earlier in his career, he was a principal and partner at Regis McKenna, Inc., a leading high tech marketing strategy and communications company, and for the decade prior, a sales and marketing executive in the software industry.

Education: He holds a bachelor’s degree in literature from Stanford University and a doctorate in literature from the University of Washington.

Prior to co-founding Barracuda Networks, Dean was founder, president and CEO of Velosel Corporation, a leader in product information management. Prior to Velosel, Dean founded Boldfish (now a part of Siebel Systems), a provider of enterprise messaging solutions. Dean was also founder, president and CEO of Design Acceleration, Inc. (now a part of Cadence Design Systems), maker of the popular SignalScan, a suite of design analysis and verification tools. Holder of over 16 patents in various disciplines, Dean has served as entrepreneur in residence at SoftBank Venture Capital and vice president of Engineering at the 3DO Company and project leader at Apple Computer. Dean is a frequent speaker at industry events, including INBOX: The Email Event and NGN Conference. Dean holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Quentin brings over two decades of sales and management experience in the high technology industry to Postini, most recently as executive vice president of worldwide sales and services at VeriSign. Prior to joining VeriSign, Quentin was the vice president and general manager of the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions at Netscape Communications Corporation. He also spent 13 years with GE Information Services (GEIS), where he had full profit-and-loss responsibility for the GEIS business in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. Quentin holds a B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Gary Steele brings a broad range of enterprise software experience to the company. Before joining Proofpoint, Mr. Steele served as the CEO of Portera, an applications company delivering solutions for the professional services industry. Under Mr. Steele’s leadership, Portera raised more than $100M in capital from some of the leading venture capitalists including Kleiner Perkins, IVP, and American Express, and grew the business from its initial concept to $20M in revenue. Prior to Portera, Mr. Steele served as the vice president and general manager of the Middleware and Data Warehousing Product Group at Sybase, Inc., an organization of more than 350 people, spanning four geographies and generating $150M in revenue. In this capacity, he initiated and spearheaded all new Internet projects targeted at the enterprise. Mr. Steele’s prior experience includes business development, marketing, and engineering roles at Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard. He holds a B.S. degree in computer science from Washington State University.
